Jocelyn was glowing the morning of her session — even more than her usual, dimple smiling self. The reason? She had just returned from a college visit to the University of Texas at Austin where she hopes to go next year to study Criminal Psychology and eventually become a Forensic Psychologist.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn is enjoying her senior year at Discover Canyon High School and loves attending school sporting events and participating in all things “spirit related.” She is a member of “Sources of Strength,” a mental health program that focuses on reaching out to students in need. The program aims to reach teens in ways that they connect, rather than how adults would reach out to teens. In addition, she is also a “Peer Partner,” which gives her the opportunity to help special needs students with their classwork and teach them life skills.
Jocelyn loves football, especially the Denver Broncos, and is the Discovery Canyon football manager/trainer. She volunteers for Air Force Falcon football by installing and removing “seat backs” on the seats of season ticket holders.
This spring will be Jocelyn’s fourth season on varsity throwing the shot put and discus and she has earned her varsity letter every year. One of the highlights of the track season is when they host a “little kids track meet” each spring.
To make money, Jocelyn walks dogs, does minor lawn work and babysits. And that cash will come in handy for a trip to Oahu that her family plans to take after her graduation next spring.
When I asked Jocelyn what she was passionate about, she didn’t hesitate to tell me. She loves helping people. And hanging out with her family and Gemma, a German Shepherd mix, are pretty great too.
